There is also a Collaborations link situated on the left hand side of this page under the 'Click For More Information' heading.
It is hoped that additional ISHVAL archive material will be made available for downloading as and when it becomes available. Unless specifically requested by the donor, private letters from Eugene Halliday will be quoted anonymously.
The Eugene Halliday (Liverpool) Archive material
The files available for download from the Eugene Halliday (Liverpool) archive site were transferred from a number of original sources.
Between the late 1950’s and the mid-1960’s, Eugene Halliday delivered over two hundred impromptu fortnightly talks in Liverpool to a group of invited people, at the home of his friend, Khen Ratcliffe. The subject material for these talks would, more often than not, be taken from questions put to Eugene upon his arrival.
Eugene gave his permission to the members of this group to record these talks; and consequently there would often be as many as half-a-dozen tape-recorders in operation at any one meeting. Unfortunately a variety of different commercial tape-recorders were used, and thus there was a significant discrepancy in the quality of the resulting recordings.
Richard Milligan, who was married to Janet Ratcliffe (Khen Radcliffe’s eldest daughter, and Eugene Halliday’s god-daughter), had gained extensive professional experience in the field of audio-engineering. From approximately 1975-1990 - after designing and building the necessary equipment - he painstakingly re-spliced, restored, and subsequently re-mastered these recordings, creating the present titles in the process. Richard Milligan agreed to allow Bob Hardy to archive these audio recordings using the original titles, on the understanding that they would be made freely available through the internet.

The Eugene Halliday (ISHVAL) Archive material
In December of 1966, with the assistance of Fred and Yvonne Freeman, Eugene Halliday founded ISHVAL (the Institute for the Study of Hierological Values) at ‘Parklands’- a large house in Bowden, Cheshire; where he lived with his wife, Peg, and two very close friends, David and Zero Mahlowe, until his death in1986.
The Audio Material
All of the files available for downloading from the Eugene Halliday (ISHVAL) archive were transferred from original ISHVAL tapes.
The majority of the 157 tapes issued by ISHVAL were recorded at ‘Parklands’ on the last Sunday evening of each month. David Mahlowe, who worked extensively for a number of national TV companies during this period, managed all of ISHVAL’s many and varied activities, including the recording of these monthly talks. It was this professional experience that enabled him to produce the high-quality audio recordings that make up this ‘Parklands’ series. David also organised their subsequent reproduction and distribution.
It is worthwhile noting here that ‘ISHVAL’ audiences would have no prior knowledge of either the identity of the speaker, or of the particular subject content of any particular presentation.
It was Eugene’s habit to write plays and essays for special occasions such as Easter and Christmas, and these would be performed, or read, by Zero and David Mahlowe, who were both professional actors. A number of these presentations were included in the tapes issued by ISHVAL, and these presentations have also been included in the David Mahlowe archive
Of the 157 tapes produced by David Mahlowe for ISHVAL: 121 are by Eugene Halliday; 26 by David Mahlowe; 1 jointly by Eugene Halliday and David Mahlowe; 3 by Able Stannion; 3 by Hanouka Rose; and 4 by Donald Lord.
In 1986 David and Zero Mahlowe was specifically requested by ISHVAL’s president and benefactor, Fred Freeman, to continue the work; a task they undertook with their usual diligence for a further eight years.
Textual material
The Melchisedec Press
After Eugene Halliday’s death in 1986, David Mahlowe, founded ‘The Melchisedec Press’, the purpose of which was to make available the writings of Eugene Halliday in book form. The Melchisedec Press’s catalogue was subsequently expanded to include a book by David Mahlowe - a work which explored a view of Shakespeare from the perspective of Eugene Halliday’ s ideas entitled ‘Shakespeare King Educator’; and a series of pamphlets and books by Fred C Freeman - who wrote on Political Theory from the perspective of Eugene’s ideas - and entitled ‘Meta-Thinking Top-Economy’.
1989 saw the publication of the first book in ‘The Collected Works Of Eugene Halliday’ – ‘Reflexive Self-Consciousness’, and over the next eleven years, this was followed by fourteen more, the last of which, ‘Christian Philosophy’, was published in 2000 by Zero Mahlowe (some three years after her husband’s death).
The most significant editorial work undertaken by David Mahlowe was the for the four book comprising’ ‘Contributions From A Potential Corpse’, which he painstakingly assembled from Eugene’s own handwritten notes.
It is planned that all of ‘The Collected Works Of Eugene Halliday’ will be made available for download in the form of .pdf files from the ISHVAL archive.
Also included in the ‘Text’ area are a number of Eugene Halliday’s other writings, and these will be added to as and when they are made available.

The David Mahlowe Archive material
David Mahlowe was first introduced to Eugene Halliday during the late 1950’s while working as a professional actor at Manchester’s Library Theatre by his future wife, Zero Mahlowe.
David and Zero Mahlowe lived with Eugene and his wife Peg at ‘Parklands’ from the founding of ISHVAL in 1966, until Eugene’s death in 1987. From 1966, David served as ISHVAL’s Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer; and from 1986 as its Chairman and Hon Secretary until his death on 28th September 1998.
This archive contains the talks given by David to ISHVAL and focus mainly on the subjects of Shakespeare; the theatre; and the ideas of Jacob Boehme.
Eugene Halliday wrote a number of plays to be performed by both David and Zero Mahlowe and they are also included here.
The ‘Text’ page contains David’s book, ‘Shakespeare, King Educator’ and also a number of essays.

The Fred Freeman Archive material
The book ‘Top-economy – or whole-group good’ was written by Fred Freeman as a result of meetings with Eugene Halliday. These meetings took place during the late 1960’s but, in accordance with Eugene’s wishes and because unsought publicity could have interrupted his other work, no action was taken during his lifetime to publish his wider teaching on metathinking top-economy.
Everything in the book ‘Top-economy – or whole-group good’ either was spoken by Eugene (mainly in reply to questions) and the answers written down by Fred Freeman, or were written by Fred and subsequently edited by Eugene.
For more detailed information please see the Preface of ‘Top-economy – or whole-group good’
Included on the Fred Freeman Archive site is a transcript of a talk.
